New retailers are moving into the waterfront’s Granary Building. Here are the details

More tenants are arriving this spring and summer for the Granary Building on Bellingham’s waterfront.

One retailer that appears closest to opening is SconeGrown by founders Kyla Graham and Xander Terrell. They are currently getting the space ready and hope to be open in the next few weeks. It will have a 100% vegan menu with both sweet and savory scone options, Terrell said. Examples of what is on the menu also include a baby lemon loaf, a gluten-free cheesecake, sesame buns with whipped tahini butter and gluten-free crispy tofu bites.

SconeGrown is occupying a small space on the first floor of the Granary Building, and will serve as more of a to-go operation as people can find seating throughout the building or head over to Waypoint Park and the bike track. Once open, hours are scheduled to be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday; 1:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; closed on Monday and Tuesday. Updates on an opening date can be found on SconeGrown’s Instagram account.

Also expected to open this summer on the first floor of the Granary Building is Black Fern Coffee. Along with coffee, Black Fern will offer beer and natural wines, said co-owner Chris Erdmann. Erdmann is also the leasing agent for the Granary Building, with his company, blu.ink real estate, occupying the sixth floor of the building.

Updates about Black Fern, including an opening date, will be posted on its Instagram account.

Erdmann said they are also finalizing a lease agreement for a sports physical therapy business. Along with the tenants already in place at the building and the technology company Korber that is moving in on the first and second floors, Erdmann expects the building to be almost fully occupied by the end of the summer.

Other tenants already in place include Honey Salon & The Hive, Artivem Mead Co. and The Bellingham Yoga Collective.

With warmer weather, more people are visiting the redeveloping waterfront district to check out the park and the expanded bike track area. Expected to arrive later this summer is the Wednesday Bellingham Farmer’s Market and a food truck/beer garden area.

While busy remodeling SconeGrown, Terrell said they’ve noticed a significant increase of people in the area and the temporary parking lot is more often full.

“It’s kinda crazy how quickly it is coming together,” Terrell said.
