These pet-friendly Bellingham apartments are being quickly snapped up
With new apartments started during the pandemic being completed, units are being snapped up around Bellingham.
One big project that recently began welcoming new residents is Cedar Grove on 1300 Telegraph Road, near James Street. Of the 101 apartment units in the two buildings, slightly more than half have already been leased, said Sarah Dunn of Dawson Construction. Dawson was the general contractor on the project.
Cedar Grove has a variety of amenities including, according to a news release from Dawson, a dog washing station, a large outdoor children’s play area, storage units, a bike rack and high-end appliances. The project was done a month ahead of schedule, despite delays because of winter weather, the COVID-19 pandemic and a dramatic rise in material costs.
Cedar Grove’s 101 apartment units are among the 428 units completed in Bellingham in the past six months, according to the city of Bellingham’s online development dashboard. Another 1,316 units are currently under construction, while 976 units are going through the permitting process.
The construction of apartments appears to be making a dent in demand. Last fall Bellingham’s apartment vacancy rate was 1.5%, according to data from the University of Washington’s Center for Real Estate Research. While that vacancy rate is still very low (the state average was 4.2%) it is up from 0.2% in the fall of 2019.
Dawson Construction remains busy with other Bellingham apartment construction, including two ongoing projects on Samish Way (Samish Commons and Kerf Apartments, both near Boomer’s Drive-in) and the McKenzie Square apartments in Fairhaven.
The Cedar Grove apartments were built through a partnership with DCI Multifamily/Fillipini LLC, TRC Architecture. Leasing information can be found on the property management company’s website.
