What’s on tap for construction in Bellingham? More residential housing
Here’s an update of planned Bellingham residential projects:
▪ A virtual neighborhood meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, to talk about a proposed new apartment building in downtown Bellingham.
The proposed project is located at 1309 Billy Frank Jr St., near City Dogs Grooming. A structure would be demolished to make way for a 13-unit multifamily building. The building will be three stories in height with two units in a basement. A parking lot and carport will be accessible off the alley behind the proposed building.
For details on attending the Zoom meeting, visit the city’s current projects page on its website.
▪ A virtual neighborhood meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, to talk about the State Street Creamery residential building project. The meeting will be hosted by the RJ Group.
The proposed Bellingham building would be built at 801 N. Forest St., near the State Street roundabout. According to RJ Group’s website, the current vision is constructing two, 6-story buildings and one 4-story building with a total of more than 150 apartment units plus retail/office spaces along State Street.

▪ A public meeting was held July 29 about building 47 residential units in a townhouse and apartment format at 350/360 East Bakerview Road, east of Petco.
The plans call for buildings to be constructed on two acres, with a mix of two- and three-bedroom units and outdoor common areas.
▪ Two other subdivision proposals went through the public meeting portion of the Bellingham permitting process.
One project is on undeveloped property on the East McLeod and Magrath roads, near Squalicum High School. That proposal calls for a 36-unit cluster subdivision, with each lot having two parking stalls and a common open space in the middle of the development with visitor parking.
The other subdivision is on Nevada Street east of Lincoln Street and near several other residential divisions around Marionberry Lane. This proposal is to build a 37-unit townhouse project.
