Another four-story apartment building is being proposed in downtown Bellingham
The apartment boom in downtown Bellingham appears to show no signs of slowing down as another project is working through the permitting process.
A public meeting with the city’s Design Review Board is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, to consider the design of a four-story, 40-unit apartment. If permits are approved it would go into a parking lot at 1106 N. Forest St., near the YWCA.
Current designs call for 37 parking spaces, street trees and a new sidewalk on North Forest Street.
Public comments are due Aug. 18. Details about commenting or participating in the meeting can be found on the city’s website.
The downtown core is home to several apartment plans either under construction or in the permitting process, including:
▪ The Stateside apartments, which are under construction at 903 N. State St. and include two six-story, mixed-use buildings with 4,151 square feet of commercial space and 164 apartments for 513 people. That’s expected to be done in the fall of 2021.
▪ A new 128-unit apartment complex proposal is currently working its way through the Bellingham permitting process. The plans call for the four-story building to be constructed at 1811-1815 C. St., near the Bellingham Police Department. The proposal calls for 65 parking spaces and 120 spots for bikes and is currently going through the design review process.
▪ There is a proposal for a five-story, 70-unit residential building at 801 N. Forest St., near the North State Street roundabout.
