JC Penney announces another round of store closures. Two Washington stores were on it
JC Penney announced another round of closures and the Bellis Fair store was not on that list.
The national retailer added 13 more stores to its closure list, including a locations in Yakima and Okanogan counties. That’s in addition to the 136 closures announced on Wednesday, June 17. A third wave of closures is expected to be announced at a later date, according to the website Chain Store Age.
The Bellingham store recently reopened in Phase 2 of Washington state’s “Safe Start” plan, with limited hours. Those hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
JC Penney filed for bankruptcy reorganization in May, joining a host of national retailers in the same situation. Those that have filed for bankruptcy in recent weeks include Tuesday Morning, Pier 1 Imports, J. Crew, True Religion and Nieman Marcus.
The number of Washington stores closing was corrected June 24, 2020.
