When and where you‘ll find ax throwing, a new tea shop and boutique in Whatcom County
With Whatcom County restaurants and retail stores getting back to business in Phase 2 of the new coronavirus Safe State program, here are some tidbits of openings and closings.
▪ Bellingham Axe announced on Facebook that it planned a soft-opening on Saturday, June 13. Similar to darts, ax throwing is a sport played with and against other members of a group, throwing hatchets at wooden targets, according to its website.
The business is at 1414 Cornwall Ave. near Pure Bliss Desserts. During the soft opening it is operating by appointment, which can be made through Facebook.
▪ A “coming soon” sign is up for a new clothing, jewelry and gift boutique shop in Fairhaven. Adored Boutique is going in the former Chimney Sweep space at 913 Harris Ave. According to its Facebook page, the business is aiming for an August opening.
▪ A new tea cafe is coming to the Sunnyland neighborhood. Bliss Tea has “opening soon” signs up in the former Pita Pit space near Trader Joe’s. According to the pictures taped on the windows, menu items include milk and fruit teas, as well as yogurt drinks.
▪ During the pandemic the Old Town Cafe is making improvements to its dining area. According to a sign in the window, it’s planning for a July reopening.
▪ The space formerly home to Hundred North next to the Mt. Baker Theatre is available, according to a sign on the front window. Interested parties can contact Timothy Shea at 360-201-5453.
▪ Citing safety concerns during this coronavirus pandemic, The C Shop in Birch Bay is planning to remain closed well into summer.
In an email to customers, the company noted that it is used to keeping things closed on a seasonal basis and so a decision was made to remain closed during Phase 2. The plan is to reopen after the Canadian border reopens and Whatcom County is solidly into Phase 3, which might be August. As they reopen, they’ll start with the candy shop before opening the ice cream and pizza portions of the business.
The candy shop is selling products online, with scheduled pickups.
