Costco will limit the number of fresh meat purchases due to coronavirus outbreak

With meat processing facilities across the U.S. struggling to stay in operation during the coronavirus pandemic, Costco is taking steps to make sure its members will still get those products.

Costco announced on its website that the amount of fresh beef, pork and poultry products will be temporarily limited to three per customer at all stores.

This new rule is in addition to a variety of preventive steps Costco instituted to try slowing the spread of COVID-19. On Monday, May 4 the membership store is requiring customers and employees to wear face masks upon entering the warehouse.

Other measures at the Bellingham store include customers being sent to the east side of the building to grab wiped down shopping carts and waiting for an employee to let them in. The floor of the checkout area is marked so customers know where to stand with their carts. The seating area in the food court is not available and reusable bags are discouraged.

Last week the CDC reported nearly 5,000 workers at meat processing facilities have been diagnosed with COVID-19, forcing multiple facilities across the U.S. to close.
