Bellingham manufacturer sold to local company, will keep making high-end products

A longtime Bellingham manufacturer was sold last month but will remain under local ownership.

In March Camtec Precision was purchased by Bellingham-based Architectural Elements. Terms of the sale were not announced. Camtec’s seven employees and 27,000-square-foot facility will remain in place, and the new owner plans to hire several more workers, said Megan Peterson, who handles marketing and communications for Architectural Elements.

Founded by Chuck McCoy in 1985, Camtec is a custom machine parts shop, making products for a variety of industries including aerospace, maritime and oil refining. One claim to fame for the company is that it made hardware fixtures such as door handles for Bill and Melinda Gates’ Seattle-area home.

Camtec will continue its recent work but will focus on high-end residential and commercial building products, Peterson said. Architectural Elements has done business with Camtec for many years, purchasing custom fixtures, and were impressed by the work.

“The two shops truly complement each other,” Peterson said in an email,

Joe Clark is the owner of Architectural Elements, which was founded in 2007. It has focused on custom-fabricated elements for homes and commercial buildings; some of the company’s work was featured on the television show “Treehouse Masters” in 2017. Today the company’s primary focus is Seattle’s construction market. It handles large-scale commercial jobs, contracting with high-profile end-users such as Google, Facebook and Microsoft.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Architectural Elements has many projects lined up and anticipates a strong come-back when quarantine is lifted, Peterson said. The company also has some general contractor clients that are working on essential projects that the Bellingham company can fabricate.
