Italian restaurant to open in Bellingham, others rollback prices for anniversary
Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity in Whatcom County:
▪ Storia Cucina, the Italian restaurant going into the former Michael’s Books space next to Thousand Acre Cider House, is planning to be open to the public on Monday, March 23.
According to a news release, the restaurant will make everything from scratch with local products. Menu items include four different types of pizza, pasta dishes and dessert. The restaurant will also have a bar serving cocktails, wine and beer.
Once open, the restaurant will serve lunch and dinner late into the evening six days a week and will be closed on Tuesdays.
▪ Rustic Cottage Home and Garden Decor announced on Facebook that it is closing its store at 310 Front St. in Lynden on Saturday, March 14. The owners of the company plan on expanding its custom furniture painting and sign painting services and will offer interior home services.
▪ Chase bank has sent out notices to clients that it will close its branch in the Lakeway Fred Meyer on Tuesday, May 19.
▪ Aslan Brewing Company announced on Facebook that it has expanded its distribution down to San Francisco and Southern California. The Bellingham brewery is now in several independent retail stores in those areas.
▪ A building permit application was submitted to build a four-story, 59-unit apartment building at 561 E. Kellogg Road, near Whatcom Community College.
▪ With spring knocking on the door, Joe’s Gardens opened on Tuesday, March 3. The garden offers fresh cut vegetables and vegetable starts for gardeners. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 3110 Taylor Ave.
▪ The three Jalapenos restaurants in Bellingham will be hosting an anniversary celebration on Sunday, March 29. Along with Mariachi music and prizes, the menu will have prices from March 1999, which is when the first restaurant opened.
