National home decor store opens in Bellingham, a seafood restaurant in Lynden closes
Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity in Whatcom County:
▪ At Home recently opened at the former Kmart space at 1001 E. Sunset Drive. The store offers a wide range of products for bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closing an hour earlier on Sunday.
▪ The seafood restaurant JoFish announced on Facebook that it closed its Lynden space on Feb. 1. The eatery operated for seven years, serving Alaska seafood as well as bread and desserts from the Lynden Dutch Bakery.
▪ Social Fabric announced on Facebook that it is having a store closing sale. The store at 1302 Commercial St. served as a boutique, textile gallery and a place to host classes.
▪ The food truck Tacos El Tule will be taking a break at its Meridian Street location. According to its Facebook post, Tacos El Tule’s break starts Saturday, Feb.15, with the truck returning to 3548 Meridian St. on Monday, March 2.
▪ A longtime printing company is now under new ownership.
Minuteman Press acquired Print & Copy Factory in Bellingham in a deal that closed on Monday, Feb. 1, according to a news release. Michael Tilley, owner of the Minuteman Press operations in Bellingham, said he is moving most operations to the former Print & Copy space at 4025 Iron Gate Road. Minuteman will close its downtown Cornwall Avenue location in March.
The new space will be three times larger for Minuteman. Tilley said he plans on keeping all the employees from both locations. Along with printing promotional services, the company also does website design.
Print & Copy was one of the first businesses in the Irongate business park, opening in April 1992 by Larry and Becky Raney.
“We’re delighted that a local businessperson like Michael who knows our community will be taking over to continue providing our customers a high level of quality and service,” Becky Raney said in the news release.
