A cannabis store expands, Bellingham restaurants to open and Pier One may stay

Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity in Whatcom County:

The 2020 Solutions recreational cannabis store at 4770 Pacific Hwy. recently expanded. The new building has 1,800 square feet of retail space, three times larger than the original 2017 structure, according to a news release.

2020 Solutions has three stores in Whatcom County, which combined to generate $7.1 million in sales last year, according to the news release.

Bare Bones BBQ announced on Facebook that it will be taking a winter break, opening back up in the first week of March. The eatery is stationed at 900 Iowa St., at the Chevron gas station.

It appears the Pita Pit near Trader Joe’s is going to stay open. Owner Dave Savage sent an email announcing that he has found a buyer for the restaurant, which was slated to close on Friday, Jan. 24.

Savage indicated that he will stay on for about a month to help with the transition. The ownership change still needs to be approved by the corporation company, but for now, it means five employees will continue to work at that Pita Pit.

Pier 1 Imports hasn’t officially put out a list of the 450 stores it plans to close, but indications are that the Bellingham store will remain open.

Business Insider reports Pier 1 wrote a social media post stating that it has deleted location information on its website for the stores slated to close. Business Insider compiled a list based on what was deleted to come up with its own list. For Washington state, Business Insider listed five stores slated to close in Everett, Federal Way, Redmond, Seattle and Tacoma.

As of Friday, Jan. 24, the Bellingham store is still listed on the Pier 1 website.

Avenue Bread announced on Facebook that its Fairhaven Cafe will reopen on Monday, Jan. 27. The was closed for a few weeks for remodeling.
