Longtime jeweler sells the business, sandwich shop closing and new restaurant coming
Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity around Whatcom County:
▪ Bill Lynch, owner of Fairhaven Gold Fine Jewelry, has begun a retirement sale that is expected to last through February. Lynch has been designing jewelry since 1972 and operated his Fairhaven store since 1989.
Fairhaven Gold will continue on after Lynch retires. He sold the business to Jason Prescott, who Lynch said is planning to take over the business in March, continuing to make jewelry and offer repair services. Prescott currently lives in Sandpoint, Idaho, but has family in this area, Lynch said.
Lynch created much of the jewelry he sold over the years. Wedding rings are something he started doing 30 years ago; for him it’s been great to see the next generation of customers coming in asking for wedding rings as well.
“I’m so glad I opened this business here,” Lynch said, adding that he was grateful to those who supported the business for so long.
After retiring, Lynch said he plans on remaining in the community.
▪ According to an article in The Islands’ Sounder, Storia Cucina is aiming for a February opening next to the Thousand Acre Cider House at 109 Grand Ave. In a previous article in The Bellingham Herald co-owner Jonathan Sutton said they are planning a fairly simple menu, with fresh pasta and pizzas made in-house with a Wood Stone pizza oven.
Details about the restaurant can be found on its Facebook page.
▪ The Pita Pit on James Street near Trader Joe’s is closing on Friday, Jan. 24.
Owner Dave Savage said in an email that he wants to thank the customers that have supported him for over thee years by providing free cookies and coffee Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. He said his regular customers have been like family to him, and wanted them to stop in and say goodbye.
Savage said the sale price for the business, which includes equipment, is $55,000. Potential buyers can reach him at 253-880-2208.
“Great value and opportunity for someone who wants to open their own neighborhood bar and grill,” Savage said in an email.
The downtown Pita Pit is operated by a different owner and remains open.
