A longtime Bellingham commercial real estate firm is under new local ownership

A longtime local real estate company has been purchased by two Bellingham brokers.

KC Coonc and Ryan A. Martin have bought Pacific Continental Realty from Jim and Nancy Bjerke. The firm was founded in 1972 and offers commercial management, sales and leasing for a wide range of properties, including industrial, retail, apartments and offices.

Coonc and Martin have a combined 37 years of experience in commercial real estate and have been business partners in Whatcom County since 2004.

Pacific Continental Realty has 12 employees, including nine commercial brokers. Coonc and Ryan said they are keeping the name, but updating the logo and putting in some technology upgrades. Jim Bjerke will remain with the company as a licensed broker.

Located in downtown Bellingham, the company handles a significant amount of commercial management in Whatcom County, as well as sales. Current listings by the company include the new mixed-use building on Bellwether Way and retail spaces in the Lynden Towne Plaza.

Martin said the local commercial real estate market is very active and is currently viewed as a seller’s market.

“Bellingham is now on the map, with national interest from investors,” Martin said in an interview.

Both Martin and Coonc said the intention is to grow the company, which could include adding more brokers.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to keep this business growing beyond its 48 years,” Martin said.
