Ferndale eatery named best Italian restaurant, adds new happy hour and brunch menus
A local Ferndale restaurant has been recognized for having “the best” Italian food, and it’s adding new happy hour and brunch menus.
The Leader Block Trattoria & Bar won this year’s award for the best Italian restaurant in the 14th-annual Best of the Northwest awards by Bellingham Alive magazine.
“We are beyond proud and humbled by this prestigious accomplishment,” co-owner and general manager Roberto Trendel wrote in a news release from the restaurant.
The restaurant opened in September 2022 after taking over the space of Leader Block Wine Co. and undergoing major remodeling and refurbishing. Trendel, alongside executive chef Doug Elliott, then transformed the wine bar into a popular restaurant by focusing on authentic dishes, desserts and wines from Italy.
The restaurant where “Northern Italy Meets The Pacific Northwest” serves a variety of authentic Italian dishes, such as fettuccine alfredo, bucatini carbonara, salmone selvatico, rigatoni bolognese, cannoli and tiramisu according to its website.
The restaurant recently added brunch offerings from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays only, as well as a discounted happy hour menu from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The restaurant also plans to introduce Sunday brunch in 2024.
The Leader Block Trattoria & Bar is open from 4-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 2026 Main St. in Ferndale.
