Netflix Quietly Cancels New Show After Just 1 Season
Netflix is moving away from one of its competition shows after just one season.
The streaming giant with more than 200 million monthly users generates 700 original titles every year, but not every show can be a hit - and some are canceled after just a few episodes reach the audience.
So far this year Netflix has already canceled a total of 13 shows, with five others ending in 2026.
'Building the Band' Canceled After 1 Season
Building the Band is now among the titles to be canceled by Netflix.
The Sun newspaper in the UK first reported the news before Deadline also reported the show was canceled, though Netflix declined to comment.
What is 'Building the Band'?
The show was bolstered by host and Backstreet Boys star AJ McClean and Nicole Sherzinger, with guest stars Kelly Rowland and Liam Payne.
"Featuring a group of uniquely talented singers, Building the Band takes face-to-face encounters out of the musical equation. Instead, the contestants will find their perfect bandmates based on compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit," Netflix wrote of the show.
"And when the bands finally do meet, how will looks, choreography, and style come into play? Expect plenty of drama, next-level artistry, and unforgettable performances."
Produced by Remarkable Entertainment, Building the Band brought together 50 singers to compete for a chance to form their own band without seeing each other.
The series culminated in three live shows that were filmed in late August 2024 in front of an audience in Manchester. Two months later, Payne died after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.
