Netflix Quietly Canceled New Series After Just 1 Season - And It Was a Mistake

Netflix added a cancellation to its growing tally a few years ago and kept it quiet at the time. But looking back on the decision, the show deserves another chance.

This year alone, Netflix has called off a bevy of shows, including The Abandons, Terminator Zero, The Vince Staples Show, Pop the Balloon LIVE, Selling the City, With Love, Meghan, Alice in Borderland, Class, Miss Governor, Alpha Males, Breathless, The Night Agent, The Lincoln Lawyer and Survival of the Thickest, among others.

Back in 2019, the network pulled the plug on The Society after just one season.

'The Society' Canceled After Only 1 Season, But It Had Promise

Part of the reason this show didn't get a second chance was because of the pandemic. So, it would make sense to give it a new life now.

Entertainment Weekly dubs it one of the Netflix shows that deserved a second season. Netflix ordered a second season of the series, and it even had a big cliffhanger at the end, but the network changed its mind in 2020 because of scheduling problems and rising costs because of the pandemic.

What is 'The Society' About?

"A modern riff on Lord of the Flies starring Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, and Kristine Froseth, The Society follows a group of Connecticut teens whose school camping trip is canceled, forcing them to return home - where they discover that all of the adults have disappeared," Entertainment Weekly notes of the series.

Will "The Society" ever get a second chance? It's possible. It certainly deserves the opportunity after getting such an abrupt cancellation.
