Philo Expands Free Channel Offerings with 12 New Warner Bros. Discovery Channels

Philo is the latest streaming service to increase free channel options for users, announcing 12 additions on Tuesday.

The move gives Philo over 140 free, ad-supported channels across a variety of genres. All 12 new offerings are also available in the company's subscription packages: Essential and Bundle+.

What new channels has Philo added?

  • All Out Alaska
  • Chasing Criminals
  • The Dead Files
  • History Untold
  • I Was Haunted
  • Living with Evil
  • Love Kills
  • Medical Incredible
  • MythBusters
  • Reality Gone Wild
  • Say Yes to the Dress
  • Survive or Die

This list encompasses a number of categories, including true crime, the paranormal, reality TV and adventure.

Some channels focus on one show in particular (Say Yes to the Dress, MythBusters, The Dead Files), while others simply feature various programs that fall under the designated subject matter.

Philo's latest changes

Philo previously added six free channels--Heartland, The Conners, Nash Bridges, Caught in Providence, True Crime and Shockwave--back in late March and also debuted its subscription-based plans the same month.

Essential ($25/month) consists of more than 70 live TV channels, 120-plus free streaming channels, aver 80,000 movies and shows on demand, unlimited DVR with one-year storage and a seven-day free trial.

Bundle+ ($33/month) includes all of that, along with AMC+, access to HBO Max and the discovery+ app.

"This is about giving customers genuine choice," said Philo CEO Mike Keyserling. "Essential reflects our commitment to keeping live TV accessible and affordable, and doing it without compromise. Bundle+ is for viewers who want more, and we've made it easy to upgrade at any time. Both plans reflect where we're headed as a company: building a platform that meets customers where they are, at every stage."

Other streaming platforms have also increased free options

At the beginning of May, Pluto TV added three free channels, including one solely dedicated to the sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica.

Roku has also augmented its free library recently, adding more than 30 new channels.
