Netflix Quietly Renews Beloved Comedy 'Big Mistakes' Just One Month After Premiere

During the Netflix Upfront showcase on Wednesday, May 15, the streaming giant confirmed that Dan Levy's Big Mistakes will be returning for a second season. The show's first season was released just one month ago (via Netflix)

From creators Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, Big Mistakes follows two incapable siblings who are thrust into the world of organized crime after stealing a necklace from a local store. The comedy follows the brother-sister duo as they squabble their way through the criminal underworld of New Jersey.

The show ended with a huge cliffhanger when it was revealed that-spoiler alert-protagonist Morgan's mother-in-law is the criminal mastermind behind their whole operation. The game-changing reveal had fans immediately hoping that Big Mistakes would be back for a second season, and Netflix was quick to oblige.

It's not particularly common for Netflix to renew shows (particularly ones in their first season) so quickly after their premiere, but Big Mistakes has developed such a devoted cult following that the renewal ultimately felt inevitable.

In addition to the show's renewal, Netflix also confirmed that they are extending their creative partnership with Dan Levy. The actor/writer has been working closely with Netflix on several scripts and project ideas since Schitt's Creek-such as Big Mistakes-and this collaboration isn't ending any time soon.

"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Dan and bring more of his wonderfully funny and compelling stories to life," said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix Vice President of Comedy Series. "Big Mistakes is the most recent example of Dan's singular voice and vision connecting with audiences around the world. We can't wait to see what he has in store for season two."

Dan Levy also issued a statement: "Very grateful and beyond excited to continue the Big Mistakesadventure and my creative collaboration with Netflix [...] Season 2 is already in the works and it's going to be WILD. I can't wait to get it out there to everyone as soon as humanly possible."

Netflix also confirmed that the entire ensemble cast will be returning for season two, including Taylor Ortega, Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quinn, Boran Kuzum, Jack Innanen, Elizabeth Perkins, Mark Ivanir, Ilia Volok, Jacob Gutierrez, and Joe Barbara.
