Having plants all around the house in spring and summer just feels right. Not only because it's a guaranteed way to make your space feel like a zen, relaxing sanctuary, but it also matches the energy of everything in full bloom outside this time of year. And, it doesn't have to be a huge collection. Even a few plants or a standalone one can make a noticeable difference in livening up a room, making plants a low investment with a high reward.

Whether you're a plant pro who never passes up the chance to add onto their collection or a beginner looking to get more into houseplants for spring, one popular plant that plant parents across all levels love are monsteras. Tailyn shows her own tall, thriving monstera with enormous leaves. It's a plant she bought in 2021, and it's hard to believe it originally started out as a mini plant on a windowsill. Five years later, Tailyn says she learned the ropes of how to take care of it best and is now sharing her top tips for growing any monstera into a big and lush plant.

Feed Your Monstera Often

"First things first," Tailyn says, "they're hungry, they love food." That's why she recommends feeding the fast-growing plant with plant food regularly during spring and summer (its growing season) to get those large, glossy leaves.

Place It In a Bright Spot

Next up, Tailyn says that "the brighter [the spot], the better." In other words, to keep your monstera thriving, she recommends putting it somewhere that gets plenty of bright, indirect light. Then, watch as it develops those big, iconic leaves.

Support Matters

Tailyn also says supporting your monstera "is very, very important." She demonstrates how early on she tied the stem of her plant to mimic its natural habitat, which encourages its leaves to face the right way and grow vertically.

Clean the Monstera

Finally, keeping your monstera's leaves clean "goes a very long way," she says. You can use Tailyn's plant juice recipe, or read this simple guide for how to clean houseplants.
