Looking for a new restaurant to try out? Whatcom County saw one new eatery open in September, as two restaurants closed.
New Whatcom County restaurant
Only one new restaurant opened in Whatcom County last month.
MJ’s Martinis
MJ’s Martini Bar opened Friday, Sept. 18, bringing unique martinis, classic cocktails and “boozie brunch” to Bellingham.
The new bar serves a variety of craft cocktails, including intriguing martini flavors such as pineapple upside down cake, lavender lemon, key lime pie, prickly pear, grapefruit, espresso, lemon drop and a “007 Shaken Not Stirred.”
Aside from its martini list, the menu also includes classic cocktails like an old fashioned, Moscow mule, maitai and more, as well as steak bites, salmon dip, chef’s pie, salads and arugula proschuttio.
MJ’s Martini Bar is open from 3 to 9 p.m. daily at 416 W Bakerview Rd., the previous location of Fireside Martini and Wine Bar.
Whatcom County closed restaurants
Two restaurants closed permanently in Whatcom County last month.
Barb’s Pies and Pastries
Popular downtown Ferndale bakery Barb’s Pies and Pastries permanently closed Sept. 6.
Owner Barb O’Brine announced her plan to retire and the bakery’s closure on an Aug. 25 social media post from the business.
The family owned bakery was known for homemade donuts, pies, pastries and more.
Barb’s Pies and Pastries was located at 2054 Main St. in Ferndale.
Boundary Bay Brewery
Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro, one of Bellingham’s most popular breweries and restaurants, closed permanently Sept. 30, after 30 years of business.
Some of the brewery’s most popular brews will still be available, as certain beer recipes will be passed to Black Raven Brewery in Woodinville, Washington, to continue brewing.
The brewery and restaurant was located at 1107 Railroad Ave. in downtown Bellingham.
