Meet me on the roof: Bellingham distillery opens scenic addition with distinct menu

Bellingham’s newest bar is officially open and offering scenic views from a downtown rooftop.

Chuckanut Bay Distillery in downtown Bellingham — also home to its Penny Farthing Restaurant — recently opened a rooftop bar, serving a select menu of drinks and food that are only available on the roof.

The rooftop bar officially opened Saturday, May 24, after years of planning and development.

“Construction on the building began in 2017 and continued right up until the opening of the rooftop this spring,” Chuckanut Bay co-owner Kelly Andrews told The Herald. “It was the last part of the building to come online with the event space opening last September.”

“The rooftop patio has its own food and drink menu that is completely separate/distinct from the Penny Farthing and is prepared on an open grill right there on the roof,” Andrews said. “It also has its own bar. Oysters on the half shell, grilled oysters, skewers, roasted corn. ... lots of great summery items. In addition to a complete range of cocktails, beer, and wine, the rooftop features a variety of iced slushies, which we call ‘Crushes.’”

Chuckanut Bay Distillery’s rooftop bar is open from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Starting June 14, the rooftop will have expanded hours and will be open everyday except Monday through the summer.

Chuckanut Bay Distillery and Penny Farthing Restaurant are open from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1311 Cornwall Ave. in downtown Bellingham.
