A new cafe is moving into the vacant mezzanine at Village Books and Paper Dreams, and you may recognize some familiar faces behind the venture.

Earlier this month the owners of Evolve Chocolate + Cafe closed their location inside Village Books, and now Next Chapter Cafe has officially taken over the space.

The new cafe is a merger of two local restaurants that are owned by a husband-and-wife duo: Jennifer Worthley, owner of It’s the Sweet Things bakery, and Bryan John Matamorosa, owner of Bry’s Filipino Cuisine. Both restaurants will remain at their current location, with the Fairhaven cafe serving as an extension of each.

“We are so excited to have two established businesses bringing the best of their worlds to our customers,” Village Books co-owner Sarah Hutton said in a news release announcing the new cafe.

“We will offer a wide variety of espresso and other beverages, including ube lattes and vegan milkshakes, as well as handcrafted sweet and savory pastries from It’s The Sweet Things, and a fantastic lunch and afternoon cafe menu from Bry’s Filipino Cuisine,” Worthley told The Herald.

“We are finally doing a business together officially. We have been working together behind the scenes for years on our individual ventures, and couldn’t be more thrilled to collaborate on this cafe, as well as being welcomed into the iconic Village Books and Paper Dreams space in Fairhaven,” Worthley said.

No official opening date has been announced, but the new cafe will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays, during Village Book’s normal operating hours.

Village Books and Paper Dreams is at 1200 11th St. in Bellingham.
