Downtown Bellingham restaurant announces closure after nearly 18 years in business
One of downtown Bellingham’s unique restaurants has announced it will close permanently in March.
Bayou on Bay, a Creole, Cajun and Southern restaurant and bar, posted its announcement through a social media post Tuesday, Jan. 14.
“It’s with a full heart and a mix of emotions that I share this news with our cherished community: after nearly 18 years, we will be closing our doors following Mardi Gras on March 4, 2025,” the post states.
“Deciding to close hasn’t been easy. This place has given me purpose and filled my life with so many unforgettable moments. But as my daughters have lovingly reminded me, change is part of life’s journey. With my lease coming to an end, rising costs making it harder to sustain the business, and recognizing that I no longer have the energy I once did, it feels like the right time to turn the page and step into retirement,” the post states.
The popular restaurant will remain open regularly until its final day of business on March 4.
Bayou on Bay is open from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at 1300 Bay St. in Bellingham.
