New prohibition speakeasy opening in Whatcom County, and here’s the secret code to get in

Follow through the tunnel and say the secret password: Blaine is getting its first speakeasy, prohibition-style cocktail bar.

Smuggler’s Tunnel, Gateway1890 Taphouse & Grill’s new speakeasy spirit room. is opening on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The strictly 21 and above bar will require guests to go under the restaurant inside the basement tunnel. Want to try out a secret menu? Tell your waiter the code: giggle water.

Smuggler’s Tunnel does not take reservations and seats guests on a first-come, first-served basis.

The speakeasy will be open from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 4-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 429 Peace Portal Drive in Blaine. Speakeasy guests can park behind the restaurant and enter through the parking lot tap yard gate.
