National restaurant chain plans location in Bellingham, filling abandoned space on Meridian

Another national chain restaurant is trying to come to Bellingham, serving Texas barbecue, steaks, drinks and cinnamon butter.

Texas Roadhouse, a national BBQ restaurant, has filed for a permit through the city of Bellingham to open a new restaurant at 4331 Meridian St.

The restaurant would be moving into the abandoned building that used to house The Billy McHale’s Restaurant, in the parking lot of HomeGoods and Summit Adventure Park.

The company applied for the new construction permit on Sept. 18 with an estimated building cost of $1.63 million. The permit had not been approved yet as of Tuesday.

Texas Roadhouse, which is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, first opened in 1993 and since has opened over 600 locations across the country. It is known for hand-cut steaks and legendary margaritas. It is a dinner-only restaurant to “ensure our managers a better lifestyle,” and only serves lunch on weekends.

In Washington, the national chain also has locations in Seattle, Kennewick and Spokane.
