Bellingham’s restaurant openings and closures in August: 2 new spots for you to try
Two new restaurants opened in August, bringing a new unique food truck and brewery to Whatcom County.
Here are the newest food spots you’ll want to try:
Larrabee Lager Company
Larrabee Lager Company, a new brewery and pizza restaurant opened on Friday, Aug. 4 in Bellingham. The business, started by a husband and wife duo, strives to provide a family-friendly atmosphere.
“We are the only brewery on the north side of Bellingham that is vastly underserved when it comes to breweries, bars and restaurants. We are very family friendly. We have an area located in the northeast corner of the taproom designated to kids that includes a kid’s table, legos, cars, trucks, coloring supplies, puzzles and more.
“Being parents ourselves, we know kids don’t love going to breweries and sitting there watching their parents drink a beer. Because of that, we wanted to make a space where the kids could have a great time too,” owner Kate Milne wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.
Larrabee Lager Company serves housemade beer, pizzas, salads and appetizers and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays. The restaurant and brewery is located at 4151 Meridian St., suite 100.
The Good Board
The Good Board, a new charcuterie food truck that opened on Tuesday, Aug. 1, is serving charcuterie boards with meat, cheese, fruits, crackers, vegetables, spreads and more, as well as grilled cheese sandwiches.
The truck will be parked at The Portal Container Village from noon to 7 p.m. every Sunday in September, at Wander Brewery from 2-7 p.m. on Tuesdays, and Sept. 6 and 7. Starting Sept. 14, the truck will also be at Roam Coffee and Brew Bar from 4-7 p.m. on Thursdays.
JoJo’s Doughnuts
One restaurant also closed during August.
JoJo’s Doughnuts, a beloved shop in downtown Bellingham, had previously announced its closure on its Facebook page, but now the owner has weighed in on the sad news that the downtown business is closing its doors for good.
“Here’s the scoop. I have done what I possibly could and still can’t make this happen. I am heart-broken for all of our relationships we made with our regulars and not being able to reopen. We cleaned out the shop yesterday and it’s final,” a Facebook post confirming the closure reads.
