Business tidbits: Another national chain coming to Bellingham, new wine bar, summer events
Here’s a roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:
Boot Barn coming to Bellingham
Boot Barn, the chain store that sells cowboy boots and Western wear is planning a store in Bellingham. The chain applied for a city of Bellingham building permit to put up a sign at 1125 E Sunset Drive, Suite 120, inside Sunset Quare shopping center where Quality Sewing & Vacuum is located. The permit was applied for on July 11 and was approved July 13.
Despite the new business coming in, Quality Sewing & Vacuum is not closing down, but moving locations, according to Carrie Estrada, Quality Sewing & Vacuum’s marketing manager.
“Our current location is going to become a Boot Barn. We will be just a few doors down from where we are now in a larger space. Currently, we are doing a big moving sale. We would rather sell through the inventory and not have to move it,” Estrada wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.
Quality Sewing & Vacuum will close its doors on Friday, July 28, and will reopen at the new location at 1115 E. Sunset on August 1.
Blue Abode Bar welcomes new owners and menu
The Blue Abode Bar in Barkley Village will be under new ownership on July 23, and is also adding new hours and menu to the beloved bar.
According to a Facebook post by the bar, the previous owner, Kurt will continue to work at the bar, but will no longer be the owner starting on Sunday, July 23. Beginning on Tuesday, July 25 the bar will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturdays.
The bar has also added new food and drinks to its menu, as well scheduled trivia nights and other events.
The Blue Abode Bar is at 2925 Newmarket St., Suite 104 in Bellingham.
New wine bar opens in June
Gold Fern Wine Bar & Bottle Shop, a new wine bar and shop opened its doors on June 29 in Fairhaven. The new shop is a sister company to Black Fern coffee shop and serves wine by the glass and other beverages and sells a large variety of wine, retail items and gift baskets.
The wine bar and shop is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and is at 1201 11 St. Suite 101 in Fairhaven.
Local soup, salad and sandwich shop celebrates 10 years
Leaf & Ladle, a woman-owned sandwich, soup and salad restaurant in Bellingham, celebrated its 10th year in business on July 18.
The well-loved restaurant received many comments on its Facebook post, thanking the restaurant for being a part of the community, “serving consistently delicious meals,” and the restaurant’s overall experience.
Leaf & Ladle, 1113 N State St., is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
