New Peking Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant that has served Bellingham for 37 years, announced its closure on Facebook.

“Sam and Jessica have been cooking delicious Chinese food and building relationships with their customers for most of their lives and are looking forward to new adventures in retirement,” the Facebook post stated on Tuesday, March 28.

“Thank you to all of you for your continued support over the years, we could only stay in business because of you, the BEST customers and community of support and love for us,” the post stated.

The retirement news came as a surprise to many Facebook commenters on the post, as no previous posts alluded to the closure. On March 5, the Sehome neighborhood restaurant even posted a new menu for visitors to enjoy.

The restaurant was located at 1208 E. Maple St. in Bellingham.
