Beloved bar reopens, vegan market, new brewery and new food truck rolls into Whatcom

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

Temple Bar reopens

The Temple Bar has officially reopened after closing temporarily in January, and after conducting a few soft openings throughout late 2022. The bar and restaurant will be updating its menu and is currently operating in new hours from 4 p.m. to midnight Wednesday through Saturday at 306 W. Champion St., Bellingham.

The Facebook announcement was met with many comments and praises of the reopening, such as “I can’t wait to come back by far one of my most favorite places ever.”

New brewery opens

Darach Brewing Company arrived as Bellingham’s newest brewery with its grand opening on Dec. 10. The brewery is located in the previous location of the Firefly Lounge at 1015 N. State St. The brewing company features housemade beers as well as regionally made ciders and wine, and non-alcoholic beverages for kids. The brewery does not have food options and outdoor food is allowed to be brought in. Dogs are also allowed.

Darach Brewing Company is open from 4-9 p.m. Monday and Thursday, from 4-10 p.m. on Friday, from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Vegan holiday market

The Bellingham Vegan Holiday Market will be taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, and feature local vegan goods from over 20 vendors, food trucks and local businesses. Guests can shop for holiday gifts while enjoying food and drinks from Sage Against the Machine, Kulshan Brewing, Lost Giants Cider Company and more. Admission is free, and there is a suggested donation of new or like-new warm socks. The market is at 1213 and 1215 Cornwall Ave.

Food truck opens

Transition Bikes, a local bike and gear shop, opened its own food truck, Outpost Eats in Bellingham last month. The food truck features dishes such as caramel pork sandwiches, ginger fried rice, coconut chicken sandwiches, Thai basil tofu bowls and loco moco. The truck is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and is located near the base of Galbraith Mountain at 5090 Samish Way.
