Sweet treat fusion: Mochi doughnuts arrive in Bellingham. Here’s where

Mochi doughnuts have arrived in Bellingham.

Mochinut has opened on Samish Way near Boomer’s Drive-In. During its soft-opening, hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and open an hour later on Sunday. During the soft-opening phase, the menu will be limited.

The grand opening kicks off on Friday, Sept. 16, with promotions through the weekend.

Originally from Hawaii, the blend of Japanese mochi and American doughnuts is popular on social media outlets like Instagram said Anh Tran, manager of the Bellingham Mochinut. The Mochinut brand is made with rice flour, giving it a chewy and stretchy texture, according to its website.

Along with Mochinut doughnuts, the Bellingham location will also have Korean rice hot dogs, bubble tea and Vietnamese coffee. The company has five other locations in Washington state, all in the Seattle and Tacoma areas.
