This popular restaurant, which closed in 2019, is coming back to downtown Bellingham
A restaurant known for its pizza will soon be back in downtown Bellingham.
Goat Mountain Pizza, which went on hiatus in 2019, is going into the former Bar 542 space at 215 W. Holly St. Bar 542 abruptly closed on July 26. The plan is to have Goat Mountain Pizza open in early November, said co-owner Chas Kubis, who also operates the nearby Black Sheep restaurant and the Lorikeet Bar with Charlie Pasquier.
Goat Mountain closed in 2019 after seven years in business as the Black Sheep expanded into that space at 211 W. Holly St. At the time Kubis said they wanted to focus on the Black Sheep concept, which has become well-known for its tacos and cocktails. After 542 closed, Kubis said it was a good opportunity to bring back Goat Mountain now that Black Sheep is well-established.
Details about Goat Mountain are still being worked out. It will offer dinner at first, with lunch possibly being added later. The menu will be similar to its earlier offerings, but there might be some changes in order to make it a more efficient operation. The plan is to have televisions to watch sporting events.
Kubis said one factor in bringing back Goat Mountain is the improvement in business at this stage of the pandemic. The Black Sheep is as busy as it has ever been, he said, and the outdoor seating that takes up part of Holly Street has been a big help.
