Where to celebrate International Beer Day in Bellingham: See readers’ choice of best local brew

International Beer Day is Friday, Aug. 5 and if you are looking for the perfect place to celebrate, Bellingham is full of local breweries.

We asked readers to vote on their favorite local flagship beer from Whatcom County breweries, and the competition was extremely close.

The non-scientific poll received 60 votes total across eight flagship brew choices.

In first place was Boundary Bay Brewery’s Cedar Dust IPA with 13 votes, closely followed by Wander Brewing’s Right Here Right Now IPA which received 12 votes.

“Inspiration for Cedar Dust IPA hails from Bellingham’s iconic mountain bike trail on Galbraith Mountain,” Jon Kull, Boundary Bay Brewery’s brand distribution manager, wrote in an email.

The Cedar Dust IPA is brewed with four varieties of Washington-grown hops to encapsulate the spirit of the adventurous Pacific Northwest, according to Kull.

Boundary Bay Brewery is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The brewery is located at 1107 Railroad Ave.

Aslan Brewing Co.’s Batch 15, Stones Throw Brewing Co.’s Raincountry Liquid Sunshine Lager and Atwood Farm Brewery’s Dark Harbor Oyster Stout all followed closely in the poll.

To celebrate the holiday, Aslan Brewing Co. is offering 20% off all international beer bottles at the Aslan Depot on Aug. 5, according to Georgi Shillington, Aslan Brewing Co.’s Marketing Director.
