This popular Fairhaven restaurant will stick around as manager takes over the business
A popular restaurant in Fairhaven won’t be permanently closing because a longtime employee has decided to take over the business.
Fairhaven Poke, which opened in the summer of 2016 at 1102 Harris Ave., was scheduled to close on Sept. 5 after owner David Jacobsen announced plans to explore other pursuits.
After the announcement Diana Douglas, who has worked at Fairhaven Poke as manager since it first opened, offered to take over the business and an agreement was announced earlier this month. The business will still close on Sept. 5, but will reopen after Douglas has her permits and licenses in order, Jacobsen said in an email.
“Diana is a natural fit to take over the business as she has played a major part in creating what Fairhaven Poke is today,” Jacobsen said.
When Jacobsen first announced Fairhaven Poke was closing, he and the staff were overwhelmed with support and kind words.
“People seem to like what we have been doing and want to see it continue,” Jacobsen said.
The restaurant, which features Hawaiian ahi tuna, originally opened with the name Aloha Poke but in 2017 received a cease-and-desist order from a company that has a trademark. Instead of contesting the order, Jacobsen took to social media, asking customers for suggestions on a new name and went with Fairhaven Poke.
