Beer, books and a view is what this new Bellingham pub offers on the waterfront
Being an avid reader and a fan of beer, Jessie Polin is combining her passions into her new business.
Ponderosa Beer & Books will hold its grand opening on Saturday, July 2, in a new Bellingham waterfront building on Roeder Avenue, near All American Marine.
Polin previously was a tap room manager for Fremont Brewing in Seattle.
Along with having 16 taps for beer, cider and wine, the pub will have a variety of beverage-related books for sale. The books will be scattered around the space, which includes an upper mezzanine level with views of the Bellingham waterfront.
While there will be some local beers on tap, Polin said she also plans on having a variety of European-style beers produced in Washington state and Oregon.
Ponderosa is one of several tenants that recently moved into the building, including City Dog Groomers. While remodeling the space for the July 2 opening, Polin said she was encouraged by all the foot and bike traffic in area, which is near the Waterfront Trail. She expects Ponderosa to be a place for people to stop in for a beer. The pub does have a small food menu and Polin is on the lookout for a food truck to make regular stops in the area.
Polin is also a classically trained flutist, having played in the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra.
The pub is open 2-9 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, noon-10 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, closed Tuesday. Ponderosa will have outdoor seating, be dog friendly and is open to all ages. Further details can be found on its Instagram page and its website.
