Restaurant roundup: Fairhaven eatery is closing next year; another reopens downtown
Here’s a roundup of recent restaurant activity around Whatcom County:
▪ Fairhaven Poke is planning to close, but customers will have plenty of time to say goodbye and turn in gift cards.
Owner David Jacobsen announced on social media that the eatery at 1102 Harris Ave. will close on Sept. 5, 2022. Having the place open through next summer will give the staff plenty of time to plan. Jacobsen said the decision to close the shop is a desire to explore other pursuits after running the business for six years.
▪ A local food cart is about to add a brick-and-mortar location.
Big Bites announced on Instagram that it is going into the former Neiner Neiner Weiner spot at the Barkley Crossroads shopping center near Lowe’s Home Improvement. According to the post, the plan is to keep the food cart going on a seasonal basis as well as operate in the new space. The food cart business was established in 2020.
Big Bites’ menu includes sandwiches, chicken wings and cheese steak.
▪ A downtown Bellingham eatery is back in action with a new name and a remodel.
Accomplice, formerly known as Comrade, reopened with extended hours and a new menu, according to a Facebook post. It’s at 1232 N. State St., next to Carnal. Comrade shut down at the end of June for the remodel.
Menu items include burgers, sandwiches and fries. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
▪ A state liquor license application was submitted to put in a business at the former Woods Coffee spot at 10 Prospect St., near the Pickford Film Center. The applicants are Brian Kenney and Frances Jones and the proposed name is Nomad Charcuterie & Wine.
▪ Sweet as Waffles is teaming up with the Filling Station for a food combo that will benefit a local nonprofit.
From 4-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, Sweet as Waffles will be serving up its waffles with the Filling Station’s fried chicken at the Alabama Street location. A portion of those fried chicken sandwich sales will go toward the Whatcom Humane Society, according to a Facebook post.
