Local restaurant bringing burgers to Bellingham’s waterfront shipping container village

The shipping container village in Bellingham’s waterfront district continues to add new businesses.

Mike Hogan of the Port of Bellingham detailed some of the upcoming changes at the Monday, Aug. 9, port commission meeting. Included in the update was the announcement that the Filling Station, known for its burgers and drinks in Fairhaven and the Sunnyland neighborhood, has signed a lease and will open a third location in a shipping container in September.

The port is also working on organizing a food truck area nearby to bring in other choices for the area. The Bellingham-based nonprofit DISH Foundation is also planning to set up a coffee and bakery stand in one of the shipping containers. There’s also a bike rental company making plans to go in next to the pump track area, which recently expanded with a bike skills area so bikers can practice riding over wood planks.

Earlier this summer, Kulshan’s Trackside Beer Garden arrived in the shipping container village, followed by Selkie Scoop ice cream.
