Taylor Swift’s upcoming Vancouver concert dates likely to boost Whatcom County economy
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour will conclude its international run with three shows this month in Vancouver, B.C., just an hour from Bellingham.
The Ticketmaster-crashing, sold-out tour has gained traction for its high demand, but also for the amount of revenue it is gaining for Swift and the cities where she performs.
Swift is set to profit about $4.1 billion from the Eras Tour, making it “the most lucrative concert run in American history,” according to an October 2023 article from The Washington Post. Tickets started at $49, but soon had a resell average of $1,611 on SeatGeek.
Vancouver, Blaine and even Bellingham could see a potential boost in revenue because of the famous pop star’s tour.
“In Los Angeles, where Swift performed six shows, the California Center for Jobs and the Economy predicted a $320 million boost to the county, The Washington Post reported.
In Kansas City, Taylor Swift’s concert brought an estimated $48 million to the local economy, according to The Washington Post.
The increase in local revenue quickly adds up as concertgoers purchase hotel rooms, flights and rental cars, or make purchases at local restaurants, gift shops and the concert venue.
Swift will perform in Vancouver from Friday, Dec. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 8 at BC Place Stadium. Ticket prices alone for the upcoming Vancouver concerts range from $1,422 to $83,078.
Hotel prices in Vancouver are also skyrocketing during Swift’s concert weekend, as hotels usually priced at $284 to $556 per night are selling for $1,053 to $7,005 per night.
The Bellingham Herald reached out to Blaine’s Chamber of Commerce about the potential economic impact but did not receive a response.
