Looking for a spooky event? Here are Bellingham and Whatcom County Halloween, fall events

Whatcom County has pumpkin patches for the perfect autumn day, but if you are looking for something a bit more spooky and nontraditional, we’ve found the best fall events for you in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Here are some fall events taking place this month, and how you can attend:

Haunted house and concert at Boundary Bay Brewery

Boundary Bay Brewery will host The Fear Garden Haunted House from 6-11 p.m. on Friday-Saturday Oct. 28-29 and Monday, Oct. 31. All ages are welcome 6-9 p.m., but from 9-11 p.m. the haunted mansion only welcomes those 21 and older for a “more frightening experience.” Entry costs $5 until 9 p.m. and $10 between 9-11 p.m.

The Dead Will Rise: Sleepy Alligators Halloween Show at Boundary Bay Brewery takes place at 9 p.m. on Oct. 29 for those 21 years and older. The concert by Sleepy Alligators will also include a costume contest, photo booth, food, beer and cocktails. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the brewery.

Boundary Bay Brewery is located at 1107 Railroad Ave.

Pumpkin Hunt at the Bellingham Farmers Market

The Bellingham Farmers Market will host its third annual Spooktacular Pumpkin Hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Guests can hunt for the 160 pumpkins hidden around the market and take home a pumpkin. The market will also have free apples and stickers for children. Costumes are encouraged for all ages. The event is located at 1100 Railroad Ave.

Sensory-friendly Halloween event

The first-ever Sensory-Friendly Boo at Blodel for kids up to second grade will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Oct. 29 for those looking for an inclusive Halloween experience. Visitors can make crafts, play carnival games and win prizes. There will be a limited number of headphones available, and the event will only allow 150 people at a time inside the venue to be safely distanced.

The event is free with a suggested donation of $3, and takes place at the Bloedel Community Building at 2114 Electric Ave.

Stand-up paddleboard sea monsters

The Community Boating Center will host a stand-up paddleboarding event from 1-4 p.m. on Oct. 30.

The event encourages riders to come in costume and join the paddleboarding event that includes warm beverages after the ride. A paddleboard or kayak costs $15 to rent, or for those who bring their own board, the event costs $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance online.

Downtown Bellingham trick or treating

The city of Bellingham will team up with local businesses to host its annual trick-or-treat event from 3-5 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Participating stores will have free goodies and treats for visitors, and costumes are encouraged.

Halloween events at Semiahmoo Resort

Semiahmoo Resort’s Halloween events kicked off on Oct. 5 with happy hour and Halloween movies at 7 p.m. every Wednesday in October. The resort hosts Halloween-themed happy hour drinks and movies in the Discover Theater.

Semiahmoo’s fall festival will take place from 4-8 p.m. on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 21-22, and includes live music, a giant pumpkin filled with ale, a fall produce market, pumpkin carving, and the Flight of Fall Festival Beer Competition. Visitors can purchase tickets for the fall tasting event on Oct. 22, which includes beer and food tastings. Beer tasting tickets cost $20, fall bites tastings cost $20, and children’s tickets for those 10 and under cost $10. Tickets can be purchased at the resort.

On Oct. 30, Semiahmoo will also host trick or treating throughout the resort from 5-7 p.m., and a Halloween movies night at 7 p.m. in the Discovery Theater. The movie night is free to hotel guests and costs $5 per person for non-guests.

Trick or treating through the resort will also take place from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Semiahmoo Resort is located at 9565 Semiahmoo Parkway in Blaine.

Trick or treat and movie night at Birch Bay Community Library

Birch Bay will hold its second Trick-or-Treat on the Berm event, where you can trick or treat on the pathway along Birch Bay Drive from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 29. The Birch Bay Community Library will also host a photo costume contest with treats and other Halloween activities and, if weather permits, the library will host an outdoor movie showing of “Scoob!” at 6 p.m., at the Birch Bay Library.

The library is located at 7968 Birch Bay Drive.

Scream Fair Haunted House at Northwest Washington Fairgrounds

The Northwest Washington Fairgrounds will host the Scream Fair Haunted House “Nightmare Theater” event. The haunted house walk-through will be open from 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29, and from 7-9:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for ages 12 and under and can be purchased at the door only. Parental discretion is advised for this event. The fairgrounds are located at 1775 Front St. in Lynden and guests can enter at Gate 2 on Front Street.

The Great Lynden Trick or “Dutch Treat” in downtown Lynden

The Lynden Chamber of Commerce and other participating businesses throughout the Lynden Towne Plaza, Fairway Center, downtown Lynden and other locations will offer treats for trick-or-treaters who visit between 2-5 p.m. on Oct. 31. Participating businesses will place orange cones outside of their shops, and the chamber asks that only ages 12 and under enjoy the free treats. The Lynden Chamber of Commerce is located at 518 Front St.

Halloween Dance Party at the Shakedown

The Shakedown will be hosting a 21 and over Halloween dance party at 9 p.m. on Oct. 29, where guests can dance to “the most spooktacular dance music from all devious decades,” enjoy drink specials and Halloween decor. Costumes are encouraged, and admission costs $5 at the door. The Shakedown is located at 1212 N. State St. in Bellingham.

Trick or treat in downtown Ferndale

Businesses in downtown Ferndale will have candy and treats for trick-or-treaters, starting from Fourth Avenue and Main Street and along the Centennial Riverwalk Park to Pioneer Park. The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce trick-or-treat event will run from 3-5 p.m. on Oct. 29, according to an email from Riley Sweeney, city of Ferndale’s communications officer and recreation coordinator.

The Beastly Frightful Unspeakably Spooky Circus of Doom

The Bellingham Circus Guild will put on a Halloween-themed show full of “hilarious tricksters, crazy feats of juggling, dance and aerial wonderments.” Tickets can be purchased online in advance and cost $15 for children 12 and under, $25 for those 13 and older, and $200 for VIP table seating for four guests.

There are seven show times, and some are only for guests 21 and above. The 6 p.m. show on Oct. 29, a 3 p.m. show on Oct. 30, and a 6 p.m. show on Oct. 30 are open for all ages. The 7 p.m. show on Oct. 28, a 9 p.m. show on Oct. 29, and the 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. showings on Oct. 31 are for ages 21 and older only. The Bellingham Circus Guild is located at 1401 Sixth St., Unit 102 in Bellingham.

Mystery in the Park in Ferndale

The city of Ferndale will host an interactive mystery that takes visitors back to 1927 Ferndale in historic Pioneer Park. The Halloween themed-mystery will have clues, suspects and a crime scene. The event will run from 3-5:30 p.m. on Oct. 30. Pioneer Park is located at 2004 Cherry St.

City of Frightdale Halloween Decorating Contest in Ferndale

Houses across Ferndale can participate in the City of Frightdale Halloween Decorating Contest, which will award winners for the best Halloween-decorated home. During the last weekend of October, those wishing to view the spooky decorations can visit the city of Ferndale’s website to see a complete map of participating houses, and vote for favorites. The contest runs from Oct. 24-31, and those wishing to participate can email RileySweeney@cityofferndale.org to sign up.

Trick or treating at Bellis Fair Mall

Bellis Fair Mall will host a free trick-or-treat event where participating retailers will have candy for visitors from 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 31. Costumes are encouraged, but no weapons, prop weapons or masks fully covering your face are allowed. Stores that are participating will have a “We have candy” sign in their windows. Bellis Fair Mall is located in Bellingham at One Bellis Fair Parkway.

Pumpkins and pork

The “Pumpkins and pork” event takes place from noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 22, 23, 29 and 30 at Alluvial Farms, 6825 Goodwin Road, Everson.

Admission is free and the event includes U-pick pumpkins, grilled sausage sandwiches, beer and other beverages, pork products and more Alluvial products for sale.
