As the latest COVID-19 wave appears to wane, a new live entertainment venue is getting ready to open in downtown Bellingham.

The Blue Room is planning to have its first event on Friday, March 4, with live music performances from Foxy Apollo, Roland Olayvar and Ceras. On Saturday morning, March 5, The Blue Room will then host a youth arts and crafts vending fair, followed by a jazz night.

The Blue Room is above K-Pop Chicken and Beer restaurant on the corner of Railroad Avenue and Holly Street. Nick Hastings, Martijn Wall and Ben Hodson formed HodWall Productions, which will operate The Blue Room. They expect the venue will have different types of events several days a week.

Along with live music or events like the arts and crafts fair, Wall said in an email the space is also available to rent for private events. Other events on the schedule soon include local movie screenings, comedy shows and open mic nights. Shows are geared for all ages, but proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test 72 hours before the event is required.

“Throughout the pandemic, it has become increasingly difficult to forge and maintain valuable, long-lasting connections between creators and their communities. HodWall Productions is here to revive and reconnect the arts community as society opens up again,” the company posted on its website.

Along with the events, The Blue Room will also be working closely with the downstairs restaurant K-Pop when it comes to food and drinks. Guests in the Blue Room will be able to order items off the restaurant menu and have it delivered to the event area.

The Blue Room also plans to implement a membership plan in April, which allows special deals including discounted tickets and other access to the venue. Along with its website, The Blue Room will update its event listings through its social media pages.
