What’s open Christmas Day in Whatcom County
Three major grocery stores will open Christmas Day for people needing a missing ingredient or to grab a pie on the way to Christmas dinner.
The decision by the Albertsons store in Bellingham and the Safeway locations in Lynden and Sunset Square marks the first time in years that a major grocer in Whatcom County will be open on the holiday itself.
A few other places also will be open Friday, Dec. 25, including a handful of restaurants, but most businesses and services will be shut down all day. Of note, The Green Frog says on its Facebook page that its annual Christmas show has been canceled this year because host James Hardesty is having surgery just before the holiday. The venue will be closed for Christmas for the first time in 10 years.
For people traveling, most gas stations with automated pumps will be open, but those requiring a clerk likely will be closed. Whatcom Transportation Authority buses do not run on Christmas.
Here are businesses that responded to a solicit for places open at least part of Dec. 25. All are in Bellingham unless otherwise noted. Restaurants requiring advance reservations are not listed. For places not listed, call ahead to check status.
