Cotton futures No. 2 closed $1.00 a bale higher to $2.85 lower Wednesday. The average for strict low middling 1 & 1-16 inch spot cotton advanced 14 cents to 72.13 cents per pound Wednesday for the seven markets, according to the Market News Branch, Memphis USDA.

US stock indexes slip; Apple jumps on strong earnings

Stocks were moving slightly lower in afternoon trading Wednesday as gains in technology stocks like Apple were offset by declines in consumer staples makers including Coca-Cola. Energy companies fell along with the price of crude oil. Investors are also working through the Federal Reserve's latest policy statement. The Fed didn't make any changes to interest rates but left the door open for increases later this year.
