Festival: Discovery Days get crabby
The 36th annual Birch Bay Discovery Days features a Crab Fest from 10 am. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29-30. Events begin Saturday with an arts and craft fair featuring about 70 vendors. The fair continues all day Sunday at the Birch Bay Beachpark property, 7800 Birch Bay Drive.
The annual Discovery Days parade, with a crab theme, is at noon Saturday, led by runners in the Discovery Day Dash. The festival’s inaugural community crab party is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with live music, a beer garden, and a crab boil ($10 a plate, or you can bring your own crab and cook your catch: the tide’s up at 6 p.m.).
The Ducky Derby starts at 10 a.m. Sunday by the bridge at Terrell Creek. Buy your duck for $5 at the Visitor Information Center, 7900 Birch Bay Drive.
