The Sounders are off today. But come this evening, they and their fans will have a clear rooting interested as CONCACAF Champions League Group F play resumes at 7 tonight with CD Olimpia of Honduras at Vancouver. (The game is on something called Sportsnet, a Canadian specialty service. Good luck.)
“The team that can come straight past us is Olimpia,” Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. “So if Olimpia beats Vancouver in both games, then Olimpia – no matter what happens – finishes first. So for us, the best result is that Vancouver gets a win or a draw because that puts us in a position where a win over Vancouver puts us through.”
Seattle currently tops the group with four points in three games, while Olimpia has three points in two games, and Vancouver one point in one game. The Sounders conclude group play a week from tonight when the Whitecaps visit.
The Sounders and Whitecaps also meet at 4 p.m. Saturday in an MLS match at BC Place.
