Borderline Bassin’ Contenders to host opening day fishing tourney

To kick off the opening day of fishing on lowland lakes on Saturday, April 23, the Borderline Bassin’ Contenders will host its Lake Whatcom Spring Open Tournament.

The smallmouth bass fishing tournament will run from 6 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. at the Bloedel Donovan boat launch. The event usually draws more than 40 anglers and will have a prize pot of more than $1,000 this year.

Teams will weigh their top five fish for the day to determine the winner, and all fish are released.

The event is open to the public, but a boat with a working live well is required to participate. The entry fee is $110 per team plus a $20 optional big fish buy-in.
