Bellingham Bells fall short as Corvallis claims WCL title in Game 3
The Bellingham Bells took an early lead in the deciding Game 3 of the West Coast League Championship Series but couldn’t hold on in a 6-4 loss Aug. 16 in Corvallis, Ore.
Chase Strumpf hit a two-run homer to put Bellingham ahead, but Corvallis’ big seventh inning, highlighted by Roman Garcia’s go-ahead two-run homer, erased a 4-2 deficit. The Knights’ bullpen made the lead stand.
Corvallis won 4-0 in Game 1 on Aug. 13 in Bellingham, but the Bells came back to claim a 5-2 win in Game 2 on Aug. 15. The league title is the fourth for the Knights, who avenged a three-game championship series loss to Bellingham in 2014.
