Annual Bellingham Kids Trout Fishing Derby to be held Saturday

The Northwest Washington Steelheaders of Whatcom County will host the 6th Annual Bellingham Kids Trout Fishing Derby Saturday, May 7 at the juvenile fishing pond near Bellingham Trout Hatchery at Whatcom Falls Park.

The derby is open and free to kids up to 14 years old, though younger participants should be accompanied by a parent or responsible guardian. State fishing regulations allow youth up to age 14 to fish trout without a license.

Younger participants up to age 9 will compete for prizes from 9-10 a.m., with 10-14 year-olds competing from 11 a.m. to noon. There are boys’ and girls’ divisions in both age groups.
