Nooksack Valley’s Bruntil claims national wrestling championship
Nooksack Valley High School sophomor Emma Bruntil won a title at the USA Wrestling Girls’ Junior Folkstyle National Championships on Saturday, March 26, at Oklahoma City.
Bruntil, was was wrestling out of the Vandi Wrestling Academy, worked her way through the 64-wrestler bracket to claim the 139-pound division title with a 4-1 decision over Texas’ Brianna Holcomb.
Erin Redford at 130 pounds was the only other national champion from Washington state.
A little more than a month ago, Bruntil claimed the 130-pound state title at Mat Classic XXVIII with a 12-2 decision over Thomas Jefferson’s Jasmine Pleasants.
