Despite Evan Needham’s hole-in-one in the first round of the North Bellingham Amateur on Saturday and a two-shot lead going into day two, it was Mike Joaquin who took home the title for the first time on Sunday, Aug. 2, at North Bellingham Golf Course.
Joaquin, who finished the tournament with a gross score of 75-72 147, needed a playoff and three pars during it to top Bob Shannon and the defending champ Needham, who had made his ace on the eighth hole on his way to a 2-under first-round 70. Needham’s second-day total of 77 gave him a two-day gross of 70-77-147.
In the second flight, Aamir Cockar took first-place gross honors with a 76-80-156 while Zak Vanwinkle won the net score with a 66-71-137.
The senior flight gross was won by Kal Dhillon, who went 79-74-153, and the net was won by Don Harman, who went 63-66-129.
