Despite outhitting their opponent, the Bellingham Bells fell to Bend 6-5 due to a three-run seventh by the Elks on Tuesday, July 28, in Bend.
After exchanging runs through the first six innings, Bend tallied three runs off Chase Nesbitt, who had just came on in relief of starter Zach Johnson, who pitched six innings, allowed two runs and struck out six.
Bellingham tried to respond in the top of the eighth with a two-run inning courtesy of bases-loaded walks by Dustin Breshears and Aaron Stroosma.
The Bells moved to 27-16 and hold a 5.5-game lead in the West Coast League West division. They’ll face Bend on Wednesday, July 29, for the second game of the three-game series.
