The Whatcom Americans youth baseball team has solidified itself as the second Whatcom County team ever to make it to the national tournament. The Americans topped West Linn Oregon 11-0 in four innings in the championship game of the 12U Cal Ripken Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament on Saturday, July 25, in Meridian, Idaho, to secure their berth.
The Americans had already topped Polson Montana 12-0 in the semifinal early Saturday.
Kobe Sandstrom threw all four innings in a great performance, coach Hank Schwarz said in a phone interview.
Garner Christensen hit a home run and went 2 for 2 with four RBI while Garrett Kamkoff and Carson Peters also had big days at the plate, but it was a total team effort.

The Americans will travel to Arkansas on August 5, before playing their first game at 9 a.m. August 7.
